After more than a decade studying classical piano at the Professional School of Music in Holguin, Cuba, Silvio Pupo moved to the Maritimes and began a fruitful career. With a deep knowledge of his instrument, Pupo found work with such diverse artists as Arturo Sandoval, Shauntay Grant, Dutch Robinson and Tom Roach, among others. Moving seamlessly from slow, soulful rendi- tions of classics like ‘Over The Rainbow’, to more sophisticated classical pieces and even delving into his Latin roots with delightful Cuban jazz numbers, his performances are enchanting. This two-time ECMA winner for ‘Best Jazz Album’ has been building a reputation as the go-to collaborator for many of the East Coast’s most notable artists, which comes as no surprise, considering his impeccable technical ability and versatility. Having just released a solo disc, Pensamientos, this year Pupo will perform a very personal show of precision piano playing, backed by his own quartet.
